We're going to the beach today....

Hey guys,

We're on tour with Thunderbirds Are Now! and Street to Nowhere right now. Having a really great time with both bands - some class act dudes for sure.

We will be heading to the beach shortly out here in CALI.

We cannot wait for you all to hear the new record - June 19th is such an exciting date for all of us.

New, New, New & More New

Hey Dudes and Dudettes,

We've been quite busy over here at TJVHQ. In case you didn't notice we've thrown up TWO new songs on different places on the web. So Check it:

"I Went Blind" available at www.absolutepunk.net/thejuniorvarsity
"The SKY!" available at www.myspace.com/thejuniorvarsity

We really hope that everyone can help us get the word out that these new songs are up. It has been a few years since we have released a new CD and we're so amped on how it turned out. I really think all of you will be as well.

Did you see our new myspace layout? Pretty sharp, right? Big thanks to DENNIS & DOUBLEJ over at Victory for hooking that up. Looks like a million bucks to me.

Let us know what any of you think of the new songs. We really care about and value all of your opinions so ch-ch-check it out!

Expect plenty of updates on this journal because now I have just as of today switched it from our Studio Journal over to our Regular Blog.

Anyone got any cool name ideas that we could go with for this blog?

xoxo

In confidence...

I am 100% confident when I say that this record will be the best album thus far in our careers.

This will be something very special.

That is all.

day off today

Its 2 o'clock in the pm and it seems that i'm the only one awake, other than birch who just walked in the door. typical i guess; i'm sure asa will get up within the next few hours. i'm watching a show on the history channel about tattoos. i need to get a new tattoo soon. my significant other just got one, so i guess it is contagious.

today we have a day off, so i hope to make it out to new york city today. we are only like 30 minutes away, we have just been busy so we haven't been able to make it over there. i get done tracking guitars soon (i think i only have one song left to record) so hopefully i will be able to go to the city a lot more.

until next time,

sergio

So it's 5 am. I'm sleeping away. It was great. I roll over kind of violently, and hear my phone fall to the floor. I'm half asleep reaching down for it, but not finding it. Then I see it start to flash and I'm like, hmmmm.... why is it doing that. It wasn't a normal flash, it was more like a short circuiting flash. And I thought... no way, not in my 32 ounce cup of water...?? Yes. in my 32 ounce cup of water. It had been underwater for about 8 seconds. and I mean UNDER WATER. I couldn't fucking believe that it fell directly into my cup of water. I was freaking out. I tried to turn it back on right away and that didn't go so well. I kept trying, then sure enough, it came back on. And it's pretty much working like it used to. I've got it all taken apart lying on the counter here. Here I'll show you... there's all sorts of condensation on the screen. I hate it... here's some other pictures I took of everyone...

peace

hello. So here I sit all broken hearted. I'm having some tea right now. Some real tea this time. It's actually peppermint flavored. It kinda reminds me of Rumple Minze. I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing. If I was getting $#!* faced right now I'd probably be really down with it.

I actually got up before 5 pm today. 2 pm to be exact so that's been a PR for me over the last few days.

I've been working on a mustache. I shaved it on down to a pencil stache (lookin real good). Now it's all kinda evening out (lookin even better, trust me). Once it gets a little more rockin I'll post a picture. It'll blow your mind.

So I'm just killing a little time before I've gotta start singing. The first song going on the record has vocals finished. I'm very excited about it. And then I've also got the skeleton track for The Sky done. I'm gonna finish up harmonies on that today and start a new one. I love tracking vocals with Mike. We're not using auto tune this time around and I'm fucking stoked about it. Been a good time so far. I can't wait to finish more. Anyway.

I'm gonna go eat some potato chips for lunch and just try to keep it real. I'll post aging with some fun pictures hopefully.

Peace!

-Asa

Its late and i suck at sleep

hey world,

Its late so im making a post. Last time, i asked where you guys wanted us to play...so i have some updated shows here. They arent all 100% confirmed, but it is highly likely that we will be playing these:
April 14th-virginia tech, VA
April 15th-Looking for something in PA/MD/VA
April 16th-pennsylvania college show -some city in center of state
May 4th-Mt. Vernon, IL
May 11th-champaign, IL
May 12th-looking for something between champaign and chicago
May 13th-Mojoes-Orland Park, IL
May 23rd-Peoria, IL-Jukebox Comedy Club
Let us know if anyone can fill the two open dates! Thatd be a big help.
In recording news, things are going great. Asa started his vocals recently so a few songs actually sound complete...and good. Things are getting pretty boring around here. If anyone wants to visit, feel free! If anyone has a boat around here you should come pick us up (theres a dock 500 feet from the front door). That probably won't happen. One can dream!

And now for a few fun pictures...

Our Producer Mike Watts hard at work.

That's me! Excited about my dinner.

(Asa's real first post!)

Hello friends... Asa here. Boredom is eating me alive here at the studio. Since Chris and I have been done with our instrument tracks for a while, we've devoted our time to beating the co op campaign in Halo 2 on normal difficulty. Chris and Sergio already beat Halo 1.

I've been sleeping till like 4 pm for the past few days. My back hurts.

Sergio and Andy are tearin guitars up currently.

When we recorded Wide Eyed, we would do all of one guitar tone separately, for every song. And put the song together piece by piece. This time around we're doing all of one song on guitars a day. Even 2 sometimes. So it's really fun to have a finished product at the end of the day. Instead of like a frankensteined-out version of a song. Ok so anyway.

This did alright on curing the boredom. I'll have to post more soon. PEACE!!!!!

tricks

To everyone that is curious as to when we are done in the studio, we finish tracking the record on or around april 5. We will then be returning to the studio a few weeks later to mix the record. All of this should be done before May. If I had to make an educated guess, I would say the album will be out before fall, but don't quote me on that because who knows what will happen between now and then. In the world of tjv, anything can happen.

I gotta go back to playing chords and riffs and licks now.

stuuuuuuupid blog. Ok so this is my second post coming at no particular time. My posts keep getting screwed up. So they've been saved for now! So yeah!

Today was a lovely day. I woke up at about 3:30 pm. Sat down and had some breakfast. Then stepped outside to find Chris!

And Sergio too!!

They're outside taking in the beautiful afternoonish air. So I thought I'd step outside and do the same...

i took a picture of andy but I'm terrible at taking pictures so it didn't turn out. Sorry bud.

Then I stood around for a while and Mike came out and made fun of me... like this..

booooooooy the studio sure takes it out of me. Now I'm sitting around watching cops with sergio while nick and Andy work out some keyboard stuff. Sergio is enjoying some tea at the moment. Oh sergio. anyway I'll be back!

my first post

Whats up people.

Im listening to sergio lay down guitar for the song "Try to Define" right now. 99% of you probably have not heard it yet, but i think itll be a new fan favorite. Im also trying to learn a thing or two by watching a documentary on how Nirvana's Nevermind was created.

I'm going to go lay down my guitar tracks for the song pretty soon. itll be number 6. i think asa starts doing some singing tomorrow.

This is easily the best recording TJV has ever put together and im positive you will all agree. If anyone wants us to come play by them to support this new release, let us know cuz we currently have no shows or tours.

I hope you're digging the acoustic version of Everyone. There just might be a new acoustic track on this record that nobodys heard before. You'll love it.

-andy

I just love it...

Here I am sitting on the couch in the lounge watching Classic Albums: Nirvana with Chris and Andy. It's kinda crazy seeing the studio and console where we re-recorded House Fire on this show.

Last night we were hanging out with the guys in the The Scenic because they were finishing up some vocals for a new CD. There are even some guest vocals in the gang vocals section by some of us. All of a sudden there was a knock on the door while hanging out in the living room...

And who walks in the door? None other than Hip Hop/Death Metal Artist - Necro. Don't know much about Necro? Go check out this video - it is quite informational.

Necro and the guys he brought with him were honestly pretty rad dudes.

I documented the occasion.

Hope all is well in TV land,

i love the smell of studio in the morning...

hey everyone, sergio here. Been doing guitars all day long for the last two days, and we still probably have a week or two to go before we finish. Whilst in the studio, i have been growing out my facial hair and really trying to see if it is possible for me to grow a beard. Asa, birch, and I decided to not shave in the studio, but i'm the only one left who didn't shave (unless you count asa's pencil-line 'stasch that he left). I still have til like the beginning of april to grow my beard, so in a few weeks i could be looking pretty rad or like a homeless dude. i'm hoping for a combination of the two. i'll try to put some pictures up on the blog here if i remember. can't wait to rock out and melt faces like the wyld stallions tomorrow.

Without Further Adieu...

So, I've been promising this studio journal for quite a while now. I appologize for taking so long.... but I have a good way to make up for it.

Welcome to our new journal. That's right - we'll be keeping this journal to keep you all up to date with what is going on in the wonderful world of TJV.

So be sure to bookmark http://thejuniorvarsity.blogspot.com/

Also be sure to scroll to the bottom and leave us comments to read. We'd love to hear from you

So...

We have been in the studio now for 12 days. Things are coming along beyond fantastic. For those of you who do not know the low down on our new recording here it is. We are out on Long Island recording at Vudu Studios (click the link and go check it out) working very close with our Producer Mike Watts. He has produced such bands as As Tall As Lions, Hopesfall, The Chariot and many others. Also working on the record is Engineer Rich Liegey Ex-Wheatus bass player - Remember that song "Teenage Dirtbag"?, yep that's him. Both of the guys are A+ dudes. We honeslty could not be working with 2 better people for this record.

Here we are with Mike & Rich

Our living conditions are 180 degrees better than when we were recording WIDE EYED. Basically meaning - no theft and high morale makes for quite a great atmosphere to record a great record.

Drums and bass are already 100% done. That went something a little like this.

We have just moved onto guitars. In fact I can hear Mr. Wildrick tracking a song titled "The Sky" as I type.

As a present for being so patient and not sending me hate mail we have posted some new fun pictures from the studio and an Acoustic Version of "Everyone's Got Something They're Running Out Of" on our myspace page. So go blast that shit while waiting for the record to come out!

Also here is a video from Maxwell's in New Jersey from last tour with BAYSIDE!
